Top 6 Tips for Birthing in May 2020

1. Get Creative

  • Create a birth theme. Have some fun with it. Music, decor, secret scents, go all out. Find some fantastic slippers that are fun or funky. Take pictures. It's going to be totally worth it.

2. Plan for the Unexpected.

  • Giving yourself a plan for all situations. Now, more than ever you need to know about evidence based care and how to handle a change in your ideal birth plan.

3. Hire a Virtual Doula. For Your Partner.

4. Bring Food.

  • Bring a shitload of food. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks. Healthy foods. Drinks. Birth Day cake. Bring everything. Feed yourselves, feed the OB staff. Make food part of your celebration.

5. Become Informed.

  • You and your partner need to be your own best advocates for the sake of both the birthing parent and the new baby. Know your options. Understand informed consent and informed refusal. Don't be afraid to take time with decisions that are not urgent.

6. Bring Comfy Pillows and Blankets.

  • Yes, you will have to have a garbage bag in the car and wash the linen when you get home but we promise, the comforts of home will be very welcome and maybe it will even fit with your theme (see number 1).
